Captain's Report

Captain’s Report – Macquarie Links 2020

It had been 136 days since our last game at the lakes and how the world has changed in that time.

Our return game at Macquarie Links coincided with an east coast low to provide wind and a lot of overnight rain. The course was a bit damp so the carts on path rule was in place.

The 28 players were eager to get out there and do their best in the conditions, with a strong southerly and occasional shower adding to the already challenging links layout.

This course provides plenty of run on the tight fairways, but demands skill around the greens and with the putter, and although playing handicap golf proved not to be possible on the day, everyone wore a smile and happy to catch up.

The club put on a great value day with carts for all, stacked with fresh towels and a lunch pack, followed by a really good evening meal in the function area, with appropriate social distancing. The room buzzed with chatter about the golf, a welcome break from the never ending COVID-19 news cycle. The local police even turned up to make sure the club was operating within the current rules.

Congratulations to the following winners:

Individual winner:

Allan Scully / (22) 35 points

In other news of note, Graeme Degnan, our hard working secretary, is about to undergo a double knee replacement in early August and committee man, Tim Hooper, is again facing a health battle.

On behalf of the club we wish them both well and hope to see them back in our ranks in the near future.

Hope to see you all at our next game on Tuesday August 18 at Twin Creeks.

Yours in Golf,

Garry Gibson

M.B.E. Golf Club Captain.
