Captain’s Report – Bonnie Doon Golf Club 11/06/2026
A change to a morning start for this game saw 30 players assemble in light rain for the 8 o’clock start.
As it turned out the weather cleared to produce a very mild winters day with almost no wind to speak of, a big change from the howling westerlies we have experienced at this course over the past few years.
The Doon is a truly great golf course with many strong par fours, some very interesting par threes and the greens are fast and true with many subtle undulations to test everyone.
Hats off to long time member Dereck Nolan who carded a magnificent eagle on the 500 metre par 5 ninth hole, which he set up with a huge drive followed by a 230 metre three wood to about 90 centimetres and nailed the putt. Great to witness.
Overall, morning golf seemed to suit most players with the top three beating their handicap and the average score of around 30 points.
Mark Sullivan took out the NTP on the 15th hole and Shane Chapman got it to 161 CM on the 11th hole.
Individual winners were Barry Morcom (11) with 38 points and Runner up was Ken Burns (6) with 35 points.
People either love or hate the multiplayer event. The lovers were new member Alex MacGregor and Adrian Maher who combined for 71 points followed by Sam Jooste and Garry Gibson with 67 points. The other end of the scoring scale was Gary Reid and Chuck with 27 points!! Funny game the multiplayer.
Golf was followed by a great buffet lunch enjoyed by all.
A reminder to the Hornibrook team, payment is required now for the October tournament.
Looking forward to a big attendance at our next game which is at Strathfield Golf Club on Thursday July the 9th and please book and pay early (this is a noon shotgun with dinner).
