SHEILDS TAKES THE EASY ROAD TO CONCORD!

The mercurial Peter Shield has taken out the inaugural Road to Concord annual golf competition, held yesterday in windy conditions at this historic course.

The final qualifying group of Barry Morcom, Garry Gibson, Sam Jooste and Peter Shields began the round with high hopes of collecting the lions share of the $2,000 cash prize on offer.

The front nine belonged to Garry Gibson, who produced some solid golf to have 19 points at the turn, two points ahead of Peter with Barry struggling with the putter and same having some issues with direction.

It was the calm Shields, who armed with a few more shots than the rest, played consistent, mistake free golf around the back nine to take the title by 4 points from Gibbo.

The battle for third and fourth went down to the last putt, with Barry missing a one metre putt to tie it up, giving third place to Sam.

Cash prizemoney distributed as below-

Peter Shields $800 (34 points)

Garry Gibson $600 (30 points)

Sam Jooste $400 (27 points)

Barry Morcom $200 (26 points)

Thanks must go to the committee for this initiative and we all hope it continues into the future and gives the monthly games a bit more importance.

The rest of the 31 golfers in the field battled the wind and the treacherous greens and only one member beat his handicap on the day.

The individual winner on the day was Hillary Ranniko’ with 37 points followed by Michael Tunna with 33 points.

The mystery two ball aggregate went to Chris Bailey and Andrew McKinnon with 69 points from Danny Rothwell and Greg harris with 58 points.

Nearest the pin on the 4th went to Tim Hooper and on the 14th to Greg Harris

The club provided great hospitality with delicious sandwiches on arrival and an excellent buffet dinner after the game.
