Captain's Report

The Springs: Sydney v Newcastle

The recent dry weather saw The Springs course somewhat drier than recent years, and conditions were hot and humid for the annual challenge.

A field of 53 golfers gathered to take part in this hard fought event, with the added diversion of a wedding taking place just prior to the shotgun start. Let’s hope a photo the convoy of master builders’ golfers streaming past the bridal party will make the wedding album.

As usual The Springs demands accurate tee shots, to set up the approach to some well protected greens, with plenty of ponds, hazards and bush to add strokes to your score card. Those golfers who hit the ball straight and kept in play were rewarded.

The impressive trophy for this event travelled down from Newcastle and is up for grabs, after the narrow victory by the Novocastrians in 2015. This year the competition was extremely tight and in the end the result for the team’s trophy was a tie with both sides winning 4 matches and one being tied.

Some great two ball and individual scores were recorded and congratulates to the following winners-

The golf was followed by an excellent dinner provided by The Springs staff, and once again the room was filled with good cheer as the members from both teams enjoyed each other’s company.

On behalf of the Sydney team, I would like to thank Gary, Jon, Lynn and their team for all the assistance they provided to ensure another successful event. Thanks to Peter Drayton wines for their sponsorship.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next game on the Sydney calendar at Pymble on Monday 18th March and for Newcastle at Horizons on Wednesday 6th April.

It is a great day and I hope to see you all there.

Happy Golfing,
Garry Gibson
